What is a third party agent?
Many small businesses choose a business principal to be their agent. You may, however, choose to hire an agent to act as your point of contact with the State. These agents will receive important legal and tax documents on behalf of your business.
There are many reasons to hire a third party agent. Examples include:
- You work from home and don't want your address shared in public records for your business.
- Your business doesn't have a street address, which agents are required to provide.
- If your business is sued, you don't want papers served to your home or in front of customers.
- You're away from the office frequently and aren't available to receive documents. This may apply to plumbers, electricians, people who frequenlty travel for business, and many others.
