What is a company principal?

A principal is someone important to a company's management. They usually have one or more of these roles at a company:

• Owner: The principal is often the primary or sole owner of a private company, especially in sole proprietorships.
• CEO: The principal may be the company's chief executive officer.
• Investor: The principal may be the investor who owns the most shares of the company.
• Decision-maker: The principal has a high level of decision-making power that can impact the entire company.
• Strategic planner: The principal may help develop the company's long-term vision and strategic mission.
• Relationship manager: The principal may manage client and business relationships.
